FREE training for jobs in the tourism sector through Leading Edge

Leading Edge, a programme devised through BCTS (Broadland Council Training Services) is offering free training to anyone wishing to enter the tourism industry. This project will provide skills training for workers, volunteers and anyone currently unemployed to be able to provide an increasingly professional tourism "face" to visitors, enhance tourism in the Norfolk and help raise the visitor economy.

Leading Edge is funded through LEADER+, a scheme which has £2 million available to assist community based projects in the Broads and Rivers area which covers areas of eastern Broadland.

The training consists of eight sessions, each approximately 3 hours long and involves a variety of topics based around researching what is on offer locally to visitors to Norfolk as well as how to deliver good customer service.

The project will provide each participant with a package of training and learning including the use of IT and the Internet, environmental issues, marketing local venues and attractions and customer service. BCTS will use laptops and involve learners in logging on-line, researching the local area and producing their own customised mini-directory to assist them after the course while in the tourism industry.

This project will take place throughout the Broads and Rivers area in and around Acle, Stalham, Diss and Loddon. Sessions will begin in Acle on Wednesday 14th September 05 and continue every Wednesday until Wednesday 2nd November 05. The course will start at 9:15 and finish at 12:15 approximately. Future courses are planned for Stalham, Diss and Loddon between 2006 and 2007.

Participants will also be given the opportunity to undertake recognised community service qualifications and there is some help available for transport and child -care costs.

Prior to completing the sessions BCTS will engage with local businesses and employment agencies to support those unemployed participants in seeking job opportunities.

For further information about this scheme, please contact Bernadette Ball at BCTS on 01603 788950 or email berni.ball@broadland.gov.uk Alternatively, please call Freephone 0800 3891113 to speak to the Business Support Team. Places are limited therefore please book your place early to avoid disappointment.
