We’re ready to do business

It seems barely a year since the last edition of the Eastern Daily Press Business Guide and, while that will obviously review past performance of companies within this region, most interest is on how this year will evolve, particularly against the background of recent events in financial and banking markets.

We entered 2008 with various commentators predicting a difficult year ahead. There will be challenges, and Norfolk will not be immune to these, but what we need to remember is that we still have great businesses with quality management who are switched on to meeting whatever challenges they face.

Andrew Moss, (left) director of commercial banking, and Bob Annable, corporate director, reflect on the past year and look forward to the future .

We know how important it is for business owners to have confidence in their bank and we take that responsibility very seriously.

Business needs consistency in relationship and policy. You have to be true to your principals. When it comes to lending money you always have to be prudent and nothing has changed. We feel that our relationship management model is robust and comes to the fore at such times as we are engaged in long-term strategic debates with our customers, and funding lines are put in place on this basis.

We make judgements based on an assessment of individual circumstances. We look to provide the right deal for the right people at the right price and build relationships that will be enduring. We are very proud of the continuity in our teams that has enabled us to develop these relationships, in many cases, over many years and we are taking this further by training our staff to work even more closely with customers.

A foundation of any business relationship is service and we continue to invest in this area. We can never say that we get it right every time but what we do give is a commitment that when problems occur they will be taken seriously and dealt with promptly.

To do that you need to know who to call and we have dedicated named contacts with direct telephone lines and that has been a key factor in RBS being recognised as Top Bank for Service in a recent independent MORI poll.
It is also this RBS approach to providing a full business and relationship offering on a truly local basis that has underpinned its significant commitment to Norfolk.

We continue to invest in the growth of our teams and in the creation of a fully integrated offering. Our business centre in Norwich is truly a centre for business.

The following pages contain some examples of the businesses that we have been delighted to work with – some have recently joined us and some have been with us for many years. We would like to thank all of our customers for their business and wish everyone continued success for 2008.

Our final message is that we are very much “open for business”. If you would like to talk to an experienced team which really cares about Norfolk and our customers, please give us a call.
