Business Guide 08

Quality on the doorstep

In Norfolk, north Suffolk and east Cambridgeshire we are fortunate in the strength in depth we have in a wide range of sectors and industries.

We are home to well-known brands such as Lotus cars, Norwich Union, Start-rite shoes and Bernard Matthews, all of whom have a national profile.

But scratch a little deeper and there’s a wealth of other companies, small and large, which perhaps don’t get the recognition or the limelight they deserve.

The EDP Business Guide is an attempt to unearth some of those companies, and bring to a wider audience the sheer depth and scale of the local economy.

The aim is to highlight successes across sectors as diverse as food processing and the creative industries. We look at the marine industry and professional services, tourism and financial services and many other areas in which the region stands out.
As in previous years, the heart of the guide is the Top 75, the definitive league table of the region’s biggest companies. In its four years, it has become a useful guide to judge the fast-growing businesses, and those which have hit tougher times.

The Top 75 is compiled with the considerable assistance of professional services firm PricewaterhouseCoopers and law firm Mills & Reeve and ranks the 75 largest firms in our area by turnover.

As in previous years, I’d like to thank our sponsors, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Mills & Reeve, Royal Bank of Scotland and Shaping Norfolk’s Future, for their continuing support of the guide. I would also like to thank Delia’s Canary Catering for hosting the Business Guide breakfast.
